Dr. Vega studied homeopathy under Dr. Richard Pitcairn about 6 years ago. Homeopathy works under the principle that “like cures like”. So, what does that mean? Homeopathy consists of remedies that come in liquid or pill form, These remedies are dilutions that have been specially made from plants, metals, animal parts, viruses, venoms, or just about anything really can be made into a remedy. Each homeopathic remedy imitates the signs and symptoms of various illnesses; the best remedy to treat is the one that exactly or most closely matches the symptoms that an individual is showing. This is what “like cures like” means.

Another important principle of homeopathy is that the body has the ability to fix itself, to heal, regenerate cells and restore health. While the body constantly tries to maintain a state of balance, it may do so by expressing symptoms. Once we match these symptoms with a remedy that treats similar symptoms, then we help the body fight the disease by strengthening the body’s “vital force” or “energy”. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this “energy” is what they refer to as “chi”.

Homeopathy is not for every one, to find a cure or that perfect remedy that fits your pet’s symptoms may take a few tries. It works by trial and error which may even take a few months or years! Classic homeopathy takes a detailed look at the Pet’s history, the symptoms they have showed throughout life, especially if the symptoms are chronic. It also takes into account individual characteristics of your pet, personality, behavior, preferences, and symptoms to help determine the most appropriate single remedy that will change the total imbalance in the body. This remedy is then used at the smallest dose to change the body’s energy or vital force which in turn starts the body’s healing mechanisms.

One remedy that every household should have available is Arnica Montana. Arnica is a great remedy to give after the body undergoes some sort of trauma or injury such as surgery, fractures or hit by car. When Arnica is applied as a cream, it helps get rid of bruising almost immediately!

If you think Homeopathy is something you would like to try with your pet and this is something new to you, I recommend to do some research beforehand. You can also schedule a consultation with Dr. Vega to discuss if Homeopathy is something that would benefit your pet.
